I discovered these awesome custom tees by ruffeoheartslilsnoty on etsy and was inspired to put together my own tshirt. I’m incredibly happy with how it turned out. I thought it was going to be quite daunting to work with stretch fabric, but its not that hard. I’m not happy with one of the sleeves though, so as soon as my sewing machine has been serviced and fixed, I might re-do the sleeve, and take some nice outdoor photos
I love how retro and futuristic it turned out. I was watching Back to the Future II just before I posted this, and I couldn’t believe how accurate and awesome the 80′s version of 2015 was! Just five more years and we’ll have hover boards. Awesome.

Paintings
I did this one a while back in 2007 when I was studying painting at UNSW as part of my teaching degree. This painting is a sort of surreal, still life, self portrait. It’s scene from my old bedroom with nintendo elements integrated into the space. It was the culmination of a semesters worth of painting. I did a few other still life paintings throughout the course, and I can only just bare to look at this one and one.
I did this painting over an extremely intense 48hr period. I was feeling quite batty by the end of it, but it also meant some of the elements are a bit rushed. I’m thinking I might touch it up by giving a few of the objects a bit more gradation and shape, and to also update the deodorant bottle so it doesn’t look so oddly shaped.

Paintings
After seeing several painting exhibits, I was inspired to pull out my old brushes and paints and have another go. For some reason I really love the idea of a still life. It must be the obsessive compulsive side of me that likes seeing a scene ordered and balanced.
I started by setting up all my geeky plushy toys on a dark piece of fabric and around it set up 3 different desk lamps to ensure it was evenly lit. I took a few photos and after choosing one I liked, I played around with it on the computer, to get an idea of the different colours, tones and shapes. created an outline and grid in illustrator which I used to sketch the general layout onto a canvas.
With most of my creations I skip any test pieces and jump right to the final product, I’m usually too impatient to do any research or samples, but this time, I was feeling a bit daunted by starting such an epic painting, so I pulled out some small board canvas’ and started with smaller studies of the still life.
I started with burnt umber laying down outlines and shadows. My thinking was, that it would help show through the layers of paint that were to go on top of it, and give the painting extra depth and character and I think it worked. I’m fairly happy with how this study turned out, and I’m planning on doing a few more, to go alongside the larger painting. Excitement!
